Trained like one of Pavlov’s dogs during my foundation studies at the West Sussex College of Art and Design (1970) to draw constantly, and never throw even the slightest scribble away – I now have boxes and boxes of drawings; well mostly scribbles!

Unlike some of my more technically gifted foundation studies colleagues who waltzed through the endless hours of life drawing, objective drawing and plein-air drawing, I struggled and frankly never shone! Instead drawing became a thinking tool for me, a way of planning sculptures, and designing large and complex structures.

The pile of well-worn drawing books is still growing and I find great pleasure in flipping through sketches for projects now reaching back some fifty years :).
